Michelle MorrisI’ve been married for 44 years and I have three children and four adorable grandchildren. Life is very full, and I am trying to be mindfully present to every moment! I love to travel, read, knit, garden, feed the birds, take long bike rides, spoil my wonderful grandkids, and of course, create art! I was trained and have received certification as a Spiritual Director from the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction and am a member of Spiritual Directors International and Evangelical Spiritual Directors Association. I have been certified by the School of Sustainable Faith’s Ignatian Spirituality training and lead others in the Ignatian Exercises AKA the Retreat in Daily Life. I offer individual direction, group Spiritual Direction, Contemplative Life retreats, as well as the Contemplative Art Workshops and retreats.
My background is in art. I spent 30 years as a professional artist, teaching, showing and selling my work. My art background blends beautifully with my work today. I use contemplative art exercises often with those who come for Spiritual Direction and I lead contemplative art workshops and retreats. I love that God blended both my love of art and my calling to Spiritual Direction in such a beautiful way. God is, after all, a Creator! I am creating a resource of contemplative art with poetry, meditations, and Visio Divinia to be used by Spiritual Directors, church leaders or individuals. I have a passion for helping others connect deeply with God. When I found Spiritual Direction, I immediately felt a call to it as a vocation. Spiritual Direction set me on a path to the mystery of God’s presence, hearing the “still small voice” of God and noticing God’s movement in my life. I have a heart for those who are struggling, at a crossroads in life, questioning their faith or those who simply hunger for more of God. The only requirement is a desire to know and experience God more deeply. It is my joy to companion others as they journey on the path toward the lover and creator of their soul.
As a spiritual director I listen to the stories of others. Everyone has a sacred story that is unique to them and I am no different. Life can be hard and it was during a particularly hard season of my life that I realized I couldn’t feel or see God working in my life anymore. The things that worked in the past didn’t anymore. I was questioning my faith and I felt lost, like there was nothing solid beneath me. My struggle led me to find God’s presence in contemplative practices and my crumbling faith was slowly renewed. As I experienced God in new ways, I found peace and felt God’s faithful love for me. God was always there working, and was faithful to lead me with an even greater faith than before. |
